Grinding activated carbon requires a specialized approach: the goal is to reduce the particle size to increase the external surface area for faster kinetics, without destroying the delicate internal pore structure where the adsorption happens. Our grinding systems use a gentle grinding action and precise air classification to produce powdered activated carbon (PAC) that meets the stringent requirements for water purification, air filtration, and chemical processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: If I grind activated carbon too fine, will it hurt its performance?
  • A: Yes, it can. While smaller particles provide faster adsorption, excessive grinding can generate too much heat and apply mechanical stress that destroys the internal pores, reducing the total adsorption capacity (e.g., the Iodine Number). Our gentle grinding approach is designed to prevent this.
  • Q: Can your system be used for reactivating spent carbon?
  • A: Our system is for grinding granular activated carbon (GAC) into powdered activated carbon (PAC). The reactivation process itself, which involves heating the spent carbon in a furnace to burn off adsorbed contaminants, is a separate technology. Our mill could, however, be used to grind the reactivated GAC if a powdered final product is needed.
