Introduction

Fly ash, a by-product of coal-fired power plants, is a valuable pozzolanic material for concrete. However, raw fly ash often contains coarse particles and has inconsistent properties. We can separate the fine, reactive particles from the coarse fraction and/or grind the ash to increase its reactivity. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: Should I classify or grind my fly ash?
  • A: It depends on your raw material. If your fly ash is already quite fine but has a coarse fraction, classification is the most economical solution to remove the oversized particles. If the overall fly ash is coarse and has low reactivity, grinding is a better option to improve its quality. We can help you decide based on a material analysis.
  • Q: What is the difference between Class F and Class C fly ash?
  • A: These are classifications defined by ASTM C618. Class F fly ash is produced from burning anthracite or bituminous coal and has pozzolanic properties. Class C is from lignite or sub-bituminous coal and has both pozzolanic and some self-cementing properties. Our equipment can process both types.
